Camp Bay to Torea Saddle
The section of the track leads bikers on a long climb to the main ridge between Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds, but offers spectacular views.
The track is wide and can be quite steep in places. Please note that from the Kenepuru Saddle to the Bay of Many Coves campsite is a Grade 5/expert due to its gradient. Watch out for drop offs and rocky areas. Lots of undulation (short steep hill climbs). Exposed ridge-line riding with great views. An easier option on this day is to ride the Kenepuru Road from Kenepuru Saddle/Camp Bay to Portage Bay, which offers an easier ride at sea level with great views also.
DOC campsites are located above Bay of Many Coves and Kumutoto Bay at the Black Rock Shelter. Near Torea Saddle, there is a DOC campsite at Cowshed Bay. Accommodation providers in the Bay of Many Coves is Bay of Many Coves Resort. A variety of accommodation options are available in and around Portage Bay in Kenepuru Sound including Treetops Backpackers and The Portage.
This section is open to mountain biking throughout the year.
