Cougar Line is an award winning water transportation company in the Queen Charlotte Sound with over 25 years experience assisting people with their Queen Charlotte Track plans.

Whether walking or biking is your choice, contact us first to arrange the best options to suit your style. Our office staff can help your planning with great advice. They will book in all your water transfers and luggage movements so that your trip is hassle free. Group enquiries welcome.

Our Round Trip Track Pass offers boat travel to and from anywhere on the track with a jetty and includes luggage (we recommend 20 kg max) transfers free of charge each day to your accommodation. *The Round Trip Pass also includes a free transfer across Endeavor Inlet if needed.

Limited time? Glorious day walks are available to suit all ages and levels of fitness on the most picturesque sections of the track. Consider adding on a 2 hour visit to Motuara Island Bird Sanctuary, home to many of New Zealand’s endangered species such a South island Saddleback, Bush Robin and Kakariki.


NB. Bookings are essential. Checkin time is prior to 30 minutes before travel. 364 days ( Christmas day excluded).

Daily Scheduled Departure Times 

Depart from the Cougar Line office in Picton

  • 8:00am
  • 10:00am
  • 1:30pm
  • Arrive Ship Cove approx. one hour later.

Returning from Anakiwa

  • Daily (Oct 1st-April 30th) 4:00pm ( or before if all assembled.) 
  • Daily (May 1st –Sept 30th) 3:00pm 
  • Return time to Picton approx. 4:30pm
